We are pleased to partner with the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) to increase awareness about the importance of water conservation with our annual Water Conservation Month Proclamation.

This spring is a great time to check your automatic sprinkler system to make sure it is functioning properly to conserve water. Here are some tips to help:
  • Ensure your system is set to follow watering restrictions, if you need to water at all.
  • Follow Florida law, which requires that all automatic sprinkler systems installed after May 1991 have a functioning rain sensor shut-off switch which senses when a preset amount of rain has fallen.
  • Install the most water-efficient spray heads designed for different uses (turf areas, planting beds, etc.).
  • Fix any broken or misdirected sprinkler heads.
  • Check that water is only spraying on the landscape.
  • Look for leaks and clogs.

Other great resources recommended by SJRWMD:
  • Build water efficiency into your home or business with Florida Water StarSM.
  • See how your neighbors save water.
  • Take the home water use survey for an idea of how much water you use.
  • Watch videos on water conservation topics.

Thank you for stating that we should repair any damaged or improperly pointed sprinkler heads. In the backyard, my mother's sprinkler heads are damaged. I'll advise my mom to have the sprinkler system repaired.
